The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a 3 motorcycle traffic crash

Date and Time:  Sunday, July 26, 2015 at approximately 1:37 pm

Location:  The crash occurred on W. Blanchard Rd., just west of S. Coldwater Rd., Rolland Township

Information: The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department responded to a three (3) motorcycle traffic crash yesterday afternoon. The crash occurred on W. Blanchard Rd., just west of S. Coldwater Rd., in Rolland Township.   

A group of four (4) motorcycles were traveling west on W. Blanchard Rd., just west of S. Coldwater Rd., when the lead motorcycle slowed down because of rough pavement.  The next motorcycle in line, a 2003 Harley Davidson Electra-Glide, operated by Larry Alan Gay, 72 years old from Portland, MI also slowed down.  

The third motorcycle in line, a 2007 Harley Davidson Dyna, operated by Tammy Sue Gay, 47 years old from St. Johns, MI did not see the other two motorcycles slow down and ended up striking the motorcycle operated by Larry Gay.  The fourth motorcycle in line, a 2013 Harley Davidson FXS Blackline, operated by Larry Hugh Bates, 77 years old from Lansing, MI ended up laying his motorcycle down in an effort to avoid running into the motorcycles ahead of him.  All three of the operators were ejected from their motorcycles.

Tammy Sue Gay was airlifted to Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland, MI by LifeNet.  She was wearing a helmet.  

Larry Hugh Bates was airlifted to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI by Aero Med as a result of head injuries.  He was not wearing a helmet.

Larry Alan Gay suffered minor injuries and refused treatment.  He was not wearing a helmet.

Alcohol or other drugs were not a factor in the crashes.

Assisted By:  The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Michigan State Police, Millbrook-Rolland Fire Department, Aero Med, LifeNet, Mobile Medical Response (MMR) and Central Dispatch.

The accident remains under investigation.
