Isabella County Sheriff's Department is investigating a car / pedestian traffic crash

The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a car/pedestrian traffic crash that occurred on Bluegrass Rd., west of Mission Rd.  A pickup driven by Ninfa Saenz was traveling west on Bluegrass Rd. when a pedestrian walked out in front of her in an attempt to cross the road.  Ms. Saenz started she did not have time to try to avoid hitting the pedestrian.  Mr. Ewert told deputies that he did not see the pickup.  He did state that he had been drinking prior to the crash.    

Mr. Ewert was transported to McLaren-Central Michigan by MMR.  He was then transferred to Hurley Medical Center because of the extent of his injuries.  It appears as though he sustained a fractured pelvis, rib fracture, leg fracture, as well as a cerebral contusion.

Ms. Saenz was not injured.

Date and time: Thursday, November 6, 2014 at approximately 8:56 pm.

Location: The crash occurred on east Bluegrass Rd., west of Mission Rd., Union Township, Isabella County.

Vehichles involved: 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup driven by Ninfa Saenz, 60 years old from Mt. Pleasant, MI

Pedestrian: Michael Edward Ewert, 54 years old, no known address.

Assisted by: The Isabella County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by Mt. Pleasant P.D., Mt. Pleasant Fire Department, CMU Police and Mobile Medical Response (MMR).

The accident remains under investigation by the Isabella County Sheriff’s Department.
