County Parks along the Chippewa River eliminate watercraft fees

Isabella County Parks recently eliminated the watercraft fees at Deerfield Nature Park and Meridian County; this includes fees on canoes, kayaks, and fishing boats. In 2005 watercraft fees were instituted at all Isabella County Parks that charge an entry fee. The County Parks budget had been reduced over the past few years, so the fee was added to help offset the revenue shortfall.

Last August, a County Park millage was passed by voters, which was needed to maintain operations and fund capital improvements at the parks. After a review and recommendation by the Isabella County Parks and Recreation Commission Board, and approval by the Board of County Commissioners the watercraft fee was eliminated at Deerfield and Meridian Parks. An entrance fee is still charged with a daily vehicle pass ($6.00) or an annual sticker ($25/county resident or $35/non-resident).
